Sir Edmund Hillary by Ella

In reading this article I have been learning to combine close  reading and inference skills to analyse text to learn more about the qualities of people known as heroes or leaders.

Sir Edmund Hillary

Sir Edmund Hillary was just an average New Zealander, known to have an adventurous life. If you’ve noticed, his face is printed on the New Zealand five dollar note. It was put there to remind all people of his achievement of climbing Mount Everest. It would feel amazing to know that you’re one of the first people to lay a foot on top of the tallest mountain, wouldn’t it? His life was filled with a lot of things, including his interest in mountain climbing. One of his actions that followed on from his climbing Mount Everest was that he had a major part in helping to change the lives of the Himalayan people through the building of  schools, bridges an airstrip and clinics for people living in Nepal. Without the Himalayan trust, that he created, these actions would not have been used. Sir Edmund Hillary, as you can probably already tell, was knighted by the Queen. This was because of everything he’d  done .

Sir Edmund Hillary was an advocate for all those people, including the children of Nepal. This was shown when he raised money and funds that helped changed the futures of the children. He founded the Himalayan Trust which became a charity foundation, that helped the people who were in need, a lot.  Along with all these things he did, he was also the first person to ever climb Mt. Everest. This led to inspire and encourage others to let them know, you can achieve whatever you want to achieve.

Sir Edmund Hillary believed in what ever did, which led him towards achieving what he believed in. One of those was helping those in need. This was shown in the way he used his fame to get financial support for the needs he had seen for the people of Nepal.

He was a high achiever in his work and had courage for others that thought differently than he did.
