Garden Design - Inquiry - Gabby
Part of our learning this turn is our inquiry learning about designing and costing gardens for our school. We want that garden also to reflect our special character.
Garden Inquiry - Ella - Marie
We are looking at the design and cost of creating school gardens
as our inquiry learning focus. Here are some ideas.

Special Place - Evan
Special Place
My special place My special place is at home because it has all my family there
and I never run out of things to do. It also is my special place because i'm always
happy because we do such cool things like playing with the ball outside.
When I come back from school I always feel welcomed, they sometimes ask
me how my day was and I would say yes.

Such an awesome Christmas - Ella
Such a awesome Christmas!
Parakai Springs
In the holidays my family and I spent Christmas day at Parakai Springs. Firstly we had to pack all our gear for the trip. Everyone placed their bags in the boot and then we were all set and ready to go. I felt a feeling of excitement shiver up my arms as dad turned the car into the carpark.
At Parakai Springs, we immediately unpacked our gear and walked over to the entrance. My dad paid for us at the front desk while my mum, sister and little brother waited excitedly at the door. We walked in the door and found a nice shady spot to put our gear under. After all our gear was set up we ran off to have fun.
My sister and I waited in the pool for my dad to come and then we could try the slides. While my sister and I waited we practised our bombs. My dad always says ‘the more you practise the better you get’. I started to practise and practise until I got it just right. Then my dad came wandering around the corner. “Come on! Lets go!”
It seemed almost like an eternity before you could even reach the slide. After a while we finally stood at the entrance. Eagerly, we each grabbed our own mat and ran all the way to the top. We decided to go on the small one before the big. There was another long line at the top. After another while we finally reached the slide. We put down our mats one after another to make us go extremely fast. WOOSH! We were going as fast as a cheetah runs. Then SPLASH! We landed in the warm pool at the bottom.
After a few turns on the slide it was lunch time. Everyone was starving. It felt like my stomach was empty, so we walked over to where our gear was and dug into the food. I ate so much that I got a stomach ache and I had to sit down and settle my stomach for 10 minutes. Almost all the food had disappeared in the bag.
Ten minutes later we went back into the fun. We swam in the pool for a couple of minutes and practised our bombs also. Then a few minutes after we were back in the same long line. At least it wasn't as long as the first line.
After a couple of turns my dad hopped off and went to change and pack up our stuff. My sister and I wanted to stay on for a couple more slides. “Come on! Lets start packing up now!” shouted my mum.
“Coming!” we replied.
Lastly we packed up and it was our turn to get changed. I cleaned myself up and waited outside. My dad and I took our gear to the car. Then everyone was ready to go back home. It was getting dark and it was a long ride back to our house.
That was the end of Christmas day and I thought that, that was the best Christmas ever.
Pearl the Mermaid - Creative writing - Ingrid
Pearl The Mermaid!
In Room 8 we used a writing resource it prompts us on an adventure, fantasy, sci-fi and scrambler.
There was once an elegant mermaid named pearl. Pearl loved to explore the different parts of the sea, she also liked to find thing from the surface. Pearls best friends were a starfish and a hermit crab, she called them star and crabby.
One day she found a strange object it could open and close it had a chain that went around it. Pearl put it on but "Stop!!"yelled her father taking the necklace from her hand. Pearl was mad her father took it so her and her friends swam to their secret place it was a tunnel leading to the surface.
When she was going up to the surface she found another object it was much different to the other one it was leather box with a small round object inside it. She touched it then a bright light shown around her.
She looked down and she found out that she was missing something, something important her tail. She swam up to the surface. The next thing she did was wake up in a bed in a castle. A handsome young man by her feet he told her that he saw her laying in the sand then took her back to his castle.
When night came went back to the beach she was found on, and she found the leather box which turned her tail into legs. She was afraid to touch it again for what had happened to her before. Yet she did and she was back to normal. When she got her tail back she went back into the sea to her father. When she got to him she explained what happened to her. His father asked her what did that to her and she showed him the leather box.
He gasped for it was the pink pearl. "The pearl was cursed by a sea witch to turn any mermaid's tail into legs and to turn any human's legs into a tail" her father said. "Throw it far away so no one will ever find it" her father said. Pearl went straight to the deepest part of the sea to hide the pearl. Suddenly a small flash hit her face. She then went closer to light. When she finally found the light she found herself in front of a sea witch. "Are y-you the w-witch t-that c-c-cursed.
"Who's asking girl?"said the Witch.
"I'm asking, and my name is Pearl!" said Pearl with some bravery in her voice.
"Pearl you must have found my magic pearl, your father must have told you to throw it away and hide it from others am I girly." said the Witch with a grin in her face.
"H-how did you know!" yelled Pearl.
"Just a guess" replied the witch.
Pearl still shaking in her tail swam away. No one has ever seen her again and the cursed pearl. Legend has it that Pearl took the cursed pearl with her and she turned into a human living with us on land. Is anyone you know a mermaid?

A Holiday To Remember!
WALHT - Writing = use the structure of a recount to share and experience.
I know this when I write a recount that informs/entertains my audience.
In the holidays, we went to lots of trips and fun birthdays, but I mostly enjoyed coming over to Nico’s house everyday because it is fun to play around with my friends and cousins Nico, Liam, Danielle and Niel. Sometimes we biked around the basketball court and the neighbourhood, but we especially enjoyed going to the downhill circle in Joe F Stanley St. In the downhill circle we sometimes watched the view of the sunset and the pukekos in the nearby swamp.
Once we reached to bottom of the road, we quickly return to the top to do it all over again, but it’s a hard step on the pedals! Once we come back to Nico’s house, we would take a break and either drink a glass of water, cola or raro. We lied around on the couch and beds like a bunch of lazy sloths. After that, we waited until it’s 5:30 p.m. so that we could go on the trampoline.
We can only go at that time because Nico’s parents were worried that we might be grilling like bacon under the sun. So when it is past 5:30 p.m. we could happily jump around in the trampoline tackling each other and playing basketball in their trampoline. However, one unlucky day, the bendy small thin poles that hold the net up broke and we couldn’t go on the trampoline.
Liam and I resolved this problem by climbing over the back fence to go and play on his neighbour Lozay’s trampoline. We only played for ten minutes and went back inside Nico’s house again. After an hour of playing on the computer and iPads, uncle Nick came back home and it was finally time for Danielle, Mamalo Niel and I to go home.
When I arrive home, I would play with my cat Panda and take a rest.

My Special Place! By Avishek
My house would be on an Island next to the beach with a whole bunch of jet skis and ground, air and sea drones. I would have my own home cinema outside with three popcorn machines. In my room I would have a LG Curved T.V and an Xbox One.
I would also have my own tech room. So I can make drones, learn how to disarm a bomb and to start working on how to make holographic computing devices. It would also have room for my mum and dad so we can live together.
This is my special place.
