Swish! - Kevin

SWISH!

WALHT- We are learning how to add more detail to my writing.

On Saturday my Dad dropped  off to our basketball practise. He decided to watch my game.
When we arrived inside the Auckland Boys indoor court, I started to practise because that was our second basketball game. I started to get pumped up during my practise. Then our coaches called us in. When we got to him all my teammates were there we all sat on the bench.

After that our coach told us some things to remember during that game. Then he chose the first 5. I was one of them. (As always) I was doing the jump ball. The jump ball is when the ref has to throw the ball in the centre of the court, and 1 player from each team has to smack the ball back to their mates. Then I got ready I jumped as high as I could and smacked the ball to our side, so one of the players in my team could dribble that ball to the other side of the court.

My friends Jeremy caught the ball and straight away dribbled to the other side and passed it to me. I was so free the I caught the ball and took the first jump shot, luckily it went in the hoop and swish! I was so happy the i got the first shot in. After the first quarter was done I checked the points, the other team was leading by 4. I felt so tempted to win so I was the next five in the game. Minutes later the second quarter was finished we were in a tie. That is when I felt a relief.

Then on the third quarter is when the serious game started. There were passes and shots. In and out. Inbound and outbound. Crossovers and blocks. The game was so busy. Then minutes later the third quarter was finished. The it was time for the last chance to win. I was in the whole game. The last quarter was the best, even though we lost. At the end of the game, we teams shook our hands and I said “GG”. (good game).

Mathematical Investigation by Michael

Walht: Multiply decimals by 10,100 and 1000.
Decimal investigation:
In my investigation, I rolled a collection of die to construct whole numbers that and multiplied them by 10, 100 and 1000.

Numbers:
x10
x100
x1000
4262531654
42625316540
42625316500
426253165654000

Well done, I can see that you can multiply whole numbers by 10,100 and 1000.
Remember to follow instructions when working on investigation and read the learning intention to help you.

Touch

Learning Intention- WALT create a descriptive recount that grabs your readers and keeps them interested.

This morning Johnnie, Folau, Kolio, Ceasar, Giovanni and I all played Touch in the bottom court.  First the captains from each teams came together to pick the players,I was in Johnnie and Kolio’s team when Folau, Giovanni and Ceasar were warming up. They started with a drop kick which I caught and ran, I passed the ball to Johnny he ran to the try line then he passed back then I tryed.

We had the ball once again and as I ran I passed to Kolio. He ran, chipped the ball across the floor and tried.  This time when they kicked the ball it became a 22 touch so then we had to kick to them. We kicked the ball high and Giovanni caught the ball(Jumping) and then ran. Our team lacked defence until they started to run backward towards our try line and scored.  Straight after Johnnie had the ball, he scored.

Soon the game was even and the bell was about to ring. I could feel the ball against my hand going to try(day dreaming.) As we continued playing touch I was playing‘fair’ then at the exact moment my switch changed into “BEAST MODE” When I got the ball I ran with the ball in my hands thinking that I was Usain Bolt I passed the ball to Johnny and kept on running while Koilo was defence line(“So he was just behind us”) HE PASSED THE BALL BACK I COULD FEEL IT AND CHANGED INTO NONU
MODE, stepped and tried. As I was running back I stood on a ball and I broke my ankle.!!

This was best Touch game for me ever because it was the first time I went BEASTmode and NONU mode and the worst because I broke an ankle.

My cousin wanted to come to  my house

I had a blast with my cousin AJ in the holidays. My favourite part was going to Mega-zone to go play a game of bumper cars and laser tag. Our first plan was to go to the movies to watch fast and furious 7, but instead my cousin AJ wanted to go play some laser tag.

We were both in the red team. There were three teams of two, red, blue and green. Our strategy was, I stay upstairs to protect our base and he goes out to all the other bases to get us some points. The time we finished the game, we hooked up our gear on to the hooks and  we both ran back to the counter to see our score on the T.V. On my way to the counter I had a feeling we would win. “Yes we won” !!! said my cousin. We won the game about 4000 points in front of the team that was in second place.

After our victory, It was time for our of bumper cars. The staff member opened the gates for us to choose a car, I picked the purple car because I like purple. While I was driving, I had a feeling that I could be a driver in ‘Fast & Furious’, unfortunately I'm not. I turned left, right, forward, backwards and even diagonally. I could barely control my vehicle. My driving ability was made difficult by the other drivers who continue to crash in to me. At times I was terrified for my safety and that I might actually fall out of my car. It was more intense than I thought. We finally finished our game, I was desperate to play another.

We walked home after we had a feed at Sylvia Park.

It was a great time at Mega zone with my cousin. If you get a chance to go I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Hi my name is Ofa I'm in room 2. My class came over to room 8. Because our teacher went somewhere. We are doing Doves because it's Pentecost and we had to use the three colors, and that was yellow, orange, and red. This is my dove I made myself and I had to blend it in to make it look nice.

Pentecost

Today in the morning we celebrated Pentecost at mass. After church we went to Room 8. In room 8 we were given a picture of a dove to color. I colored my dove red yellow and orange. These are the colors of the Holy Spirit. My dove looks really cool.

Grey angels

WALT identify and discuss main key ideas and use this to write a summary.
Grey Angels Summary
Thousands of nurses helped injured soldiers during the  war. Many nurses wanted to help the soldiers at war and the key way they could do this was through active service, using their nursing skills to help the wounded.

The Western front was filled with wounded men. They (the nurses) had to work in what is described as punishing, due to  the intense temperatures / heat they had to  work in for  the whole day.

Small barges were used to ferry wounded men backward and forward to Hospital ships.. The nurses also had to work in these same conditions. Most of the soldiers came from the battlefield. Nurses also  traveled to different countries around the world where there was war. There were more than 47,000 patients. Two thousand men were killed before getting to the hospital. A lot of them had no graves that were known. Some people struggled. Many patients had to have limbs amputated as a result of their injuries.

Grey Angels - review by Ingrid

Grey Angels!

8 April 1915
A large crowd came together on Wellington’s Glasgow Wharf. Fifty New Zealand nurses were  boarding the SS Rotorua. They were on their way to the war in Europe. It was a vast and boundless ocean. The nurses landed in Egypt where the soldiers from Gallipoli were taken to. They work long and hard hours to treat the injured. Some patients were sick with dysentery and pneumonia. Others had serious bullet or shrapnel wounds or broken bones. Later that year the weather got very cold and soldiers came with terrible frostbites. Patients that recovered were sent back to war. Those who were very sick were sent home on the hospital ship. After a year in Egypt some of the nurses were sent to work in New Zealand hospital at Brockenhurst. Nurses were sent wherever they were needed  but never to the front line.
